What Your Favourite Colours Might Be Saying About You
Colour isn’t just about what looks good on your walls or your sofa. It’s about how your space makes you feel. That’s where colour psychology comes in, a subject I’ve been obsessed with for years.
Why colour psychology matters
At its core, colour psychology is the study of how colours influence mood, emotion and even behaviour. It’s why some spaces make you feel instantly relaxed, while others energise you, or why you find yourself constantly drawn to soft blues or warm rust tones. Colours speak to something deeper. They connect to personality, memory and mood. When used well, they help create spaces that feel like a true reflection of who you are.
The woman who changed the way I see colour
One of the most influential voices in this field is Angela Wright, whose book The Beginner’s Guide to Colour Psychology made an enormous impact on the way I approach design, first at Britt White Studio and now with Curated for KIN.
Her message? There are no wrong colours, only the wrong combinations. That insight was a game changer. Her theory of four colour personalities: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, is the framework I’ve used to develop our very first Curated for KIN collections.
The Four Seasons of Colour
Wright’s theory connects colour palettes to personality types. Each “season” has its own energy and emotional tone. Understanding yours can make it so much easier to select colours and furnishings that feel right for you.
So…which season are you?
Let me introduce you to our four Curated for KIN collections. Each one was inspired by Angela Wright’s colour personalities and reimagined as beautifully livable interiors.
REMY is Spring.
Playful, light-hearted and full of bounce, Remy’s world is one of warm whites, apple greens, buttercup yellows and baby blues. There’s a clarity and energy to Remy’s palette, just like that feeling you get after a really good coffee and a sun-drenched walk.
ALICE is Summer.
She’s loyal, graceful and quietly elegant. Always polished but never overstated. Alice leans into cool, chalky hues: dusty rose, powdered blue, lavender and sage. Think soft linens, sun-bleached finishes, and that relaxed sophistication you can never quite put your finger on.
PHOENIX is Autumn.
Phoenix is grounded, expressive and nostalgic. Deep rusts, olive greens, aubergine and mustard bring warmth and weight to this palette. It’s the feeling of worn leather, aged timber and slow conversations by the fire. Earthy, soulful and full of character.
HUGO is Winter
He’s bold, focused and always on the go. Hugo lives for clean lines and contrast. No fluff, no fuss. His palette features icy whites, inky blacks and high-drama brights. Picture a modern ski chalet with a deeply purple chair and geometric sculptural lighting. Cool, confident and unapologetically striking.
